Working With Clay

Materials List -

• Board
• Rolling Pin
• Clay
• Rulers
• Plastic Knives
• Cling film
• Cocktail Sticks
• Cotton Buds
• Brushes
• Spoons
• Wire 

Health and Safety -

• Clay drys fast and wouldn't be the best for people with eczema or
  asthma
• if working with clay in large amounts it would be helpful to wear a mask (clay dust)

Process -

• Unwrap the clay from bag
• Always keep the clay airtight to stop it from going hard
• take a large chunk of clay from bag
• place on to a board
• roll out the clay so that it is level and well spread out
• cut a 8x10cm grid from clay to work from 
• repeat process
• Aim for around 2cm thick tiles
• any excess clay not used place bag into airtight bag

Techniques

• sketch out the image you have chosen to work from
• use objects such as cotton buds to make indents into the clay 
• use other items to make impressions such as cross hatching into the tile
