Health and Safety -
- Clay drys fast and wouldn't be the best for people with eczema or
asthma
- if working with clay in large amounts it would be helpful to wear a mask (clay dust)
Process -
- Unwrap the clay from bag
- Always keep the clay airtight to stop it from going hard
- take a large chunk of clay from bag
- place on to a board
- roll out the clay so that it is level and well spread out
- cut a 8x10cm grid from clay to work from
- repeat process
- Aim for around 2cm thick tiles
- any excess clay not used place bag into airtight bag
Techniques
- sketch out the image you have chosen to work from
- use objects such as cotton buds to make indents into the clay
- use other items to make impressions such as cross hatching into the tile
